What's your New Year's resolution, errantbehavior?

I'm sure a great many of us FastDay Friends have resolved to continue losing (or maintaining!) weight in 2015. I for one intend to shift the weight I regained after my illness. I hope by next Christmas to be back at goal and maintaining. Thank goodness I know fasting really works, even if it's not always as quick as we'd like it to be... slow and steady wins the race!

We've got exciting news for new fasters & re-starters!

You may recall we trialled an online fasting program last year. It was a resounding success and we're really grateful to everyone who took part, the fantastic feedback was invaluable.

I'm delighted to announce that we're now ready to officially launch the "FastStart Program" in association with Ways of Eating, a 6 week online course in 5:2 intermittent fasting - made by experienced fasters to help get you on the right track.
Struggled to commit to fasting when going it alone?

Overwhelmed by the information available and not sure where to begin?

Feel the need for a more structured plan to get started?

Maybe you know someone who feels like this and could use a helping hand to start fasting? Find out more.

Program Starts: 15th January 2014
Cost: £40
Limited to 50 places

Online meetings will be held at 7pm GMT
(It is not essential you attend the meetings to complete the program)

Did you know...?

Fasting is not a new idea. People have been fasting for centuries and the scientists of the 1800s and 1900s were interested in what happens to our bodies when we fast. They worked out how the different hormones control how we...

What's the buzz?

A lot of the calories in what we eat comes from the carbs which many of us use as a tasty (but actually not very filling) way to bulk out a meal. We love these alternative ways to replace those carbohydrates with something less calorific and more nutritious!

Curried Leek & Apple Soup

100 calories per serving

A comforting low calorie soup from Lavendar & Lovage that will be enjoyed by all the family, this soup is wonderful with or without bread and is a tasty and very low 100 calories a bowl (the recipe makes 4 bowls).

Season's greetings, errantbehavior!

What a year it's been, not just for me personally but for our community. We've moved to our fancy new server, changed name, changed our look, gone mobile, started a newsletter... and none of this would have been possible, without YOU, our dedicated FastDay Friends! Thank you for your ongoing support this year and congratulations for all you have achieved - maintaining, losing or simply perservering!

The FastDay Christmas Challenge - a fantastic success!

This week I'd like to say a special thank you to FastDay member Juliana.Rivers for her great work in running the Christmas Challenge.

Thanks to her efforts with a group of over 100 members, almost a dozen of them have reported in so far as reaching their goal. What a fantastic result!

Don't forget if you joined the challenge, it finishes at midnight on December 22nd, so be sure to report in with your results!

If you're fasting over the holidays you may find some of your friends and family don't understand or may even be critical. Here are some tips for how to respond to them.

What's the buzz?

This great little video was shared with me and seems really apt for this time of year when we're so prone to over indulge. Remember to eat fresh, homemade food whenever possible!

Kale & Cheddar Bubble and Squeak

190 calories per serving

If I'm being completely honest, it's not the Christmas day roast dinner which I get most excited about, but using up the leftovers for days after to make Bubble & Squeak. I usually serve mine with leftover meat or a fried egg.

This recipe courtesy of Tinned Tomatoes can be made with leftovers but is good enough to make from scratch! Enjoy it on a fast day or have a bigger portion on a feed day!

We'd also love to see pictures of how YOU use up your healthy leftovers to feature in the New Year!

Vegetables win!

Last week we asked which foods you eat most of on your fast days.

The top 3 foods for fast days came out as Vegetables (32%), Meat (19%) and Eggs (17%). It looks like the official Fast Diet mantra of "mostly plants and protein" really is what most of us stick with, especially as in fourth place we have Fish (11%).

No other food group got more than 6% of the vote, it seems that sugary carbs and fatty foods are less popular on fast days - which is no bad thing!

Find out more about when and what you should eat when intermittent fasting.

We're taking a little break from our polls over the festive period but they will return in the New Year! Watch this space :)

Happy Holidays!

Well, that's all from us for 2014, but we'll be back in your inbox come the New Year with lots of news and developments from the FastDay team. Happy holidays everyone!
