FastDay Friends Weekly is changing!

View this email in your browser

Hello errantbehavior, have you had a good week?

I won't be asking that for long - soon it'll be "Have you had a good fortnight?"

Yes dear readers, FastDay Friends Weekly is changing to FastDay Friends Fortnightly. Actually, until I'd typed that I hadn't realised just how alliterative it is! I may have to think of a more snappy name ;) Suggestions on a postcard....

You may have noticed in recent months that Caroline & I haven't been adding quite so much new content to the FastDay site (well, we do have a lot on there already!). We've both been busy with the Ways of Eating team, working on some really exciting new fasting and healthy eating projects. Meanwhile I'll be cutting back on the newsletters to allow me a little more time and a little less stress! I hope you can understand.

There will be a full newsletter next week, after which they will be changing to once a fortnight (that's 'every other week', I'm not sure the word fortnight is used the world over?).

Meanwhile, here's a lovely fasting recipe to inspire you for the week ahead...

Luxury Steak Burger with Artichokes and Olives

290 calories per serving

Extra lean steak or minced beef is used in these burgers……and the addition of a hot lemon dressing with artichoke hearts and olives lifts these burgers to a luxurious and gourmet level.

FastDay Friends Weekly: Do you ever feel like a failure?

View this email in your browser

Hi errantbehavior, how's things?

I don't know about you, but lately I've felt myself slipping a bit. It really can happen to any one of us! Since my illness, subsequent inability to fast (or do much at all) for over 8 months and of course the weight regain which resulted, I've been doing 4:3 in a bid to 'shift the weight a bit quicker'. Has it been working? Honestly, no. I lost some before Christmas, which I promptly regained over the holidays and it's taken months to shift it again.

I think I know why. I've been overeating on my feed days. I've even 'cheated' on a few fasts and tried to kid myself about it. I'm beginning to suspect that 4:3 does not agree so well psychologically with me. Fasting Monday, Wednesday and Friday feels like it's every other day and I found myself stuffing my face unnecessarily on my off days just because I knew that the next day I couldn't. How ridiculous! It's been totally counter-productive. This week I've taken things back to basics and reverted to Monday & Thursday fasting. I feel happier for it, that's for sure. Time will tell if it makes an impact on the scales, but I certainly haven't felt the need to stuff my face in quite the same way this week and my fasts themselves have been far more honest!

You see, any one of us can struggle at times, no matter how experienced a faster we may be. If you need a bit of extra support, head along to the forum for some encouragement and if you feel you need more personal guidance, consider signing up to Caroline's fantastic 5:2 starter course (the next one starts on Thursday, so you're just in time to get on board).

Illness ruined my 5:2 success story, but I'm getting back on track!

This week I'm sharing my original 5:2 weight loss story with you, in a bid to remind myself of how well I did and that I can do it again!

I feel like a failure and a fraud for having regained so much weight after my illness, but I intend to get back on track - and I hope that if you've fallen off the wagon too that you'll get on board with me!

FastDay Friends Weekly: How much energy does your body need?

View this email in your browser

Hi errantbehavior, I hope you've had a nice week.

This week I've taken a week off work to indulge in a bit of much needed 'me time'. I fasted 3 times during the week, but the scales simply didn't budge. How frustrating! It happens to us all at times and can be for a variety of reasons. Scales can be such horrible liars.

In my case though, it comes down to TDEE - Total Daily Energy Expenditure. My feed day nibbling this week (not to mention over indulgence during the Easter weekend) has effectively cancelled out the calorie deficit from my fasts. Doh! This is so easily done if you eat without planning and if you're not aware of your body's needs. A little pinch of this and that while you're cooking can pack quite a shocking calorie punch!

Did you know that as you lose weight your body needs less fuel and therefore you should be eating less overall as time goes by? If you use our Progress Tracker at FastDay, you'll see how your 'TDEE' changes as you lose weight. Many of us find our appetites decrease from fasting anyway, but it can be helpful to keep an eye on this if you're struggling.
