FastDay Friends Weekly: A handy guide to festive fasting...

Ho ho ho errantbehavior, are you ready for the holidays?

It's very nearly that time of year again! If you want to avoid gaining extra pounds over the holiday season check out our handy tips for festive fasting, below. On top of that 2015 is rapidly drawing closer and I expect many of you are now approaching your Fastiversary - watch this space if so, as we've got something special planned for you...

It's time I shared my own fasting success story with you!

"Years ago in my twenties I managed to lose a large amount of weight – through daily calorie restriction and some pretty bad eating habits as a result of a controlling and unpleasant relationship. When the relationship broke down and I found a new man I was happy again and felt free to eat as I wanted to. I kept the weight down to a reasonable – albeit still slightly overweight – level until we got married..."

Whether or not you've reached your goal weight yet, with the holidays approaching, aiming to maintain weight over the festive period may be more realistic than losing!

What's the buzz?

It's the season to "eat, drink and be merry" as many call it, but if you've been losing weight you probably don't want to undo all that hard work. Did you know the average Briton gains around 6lb over the holiday season?

375 calories per serving

Whether it's a cold winter or warm summer where you are, there's nothing so comforting as a tasty helping of fish and chips! This recipe transforms an old favourite into something fast day friendly - with enough calories to spare for some mushy peas and ketchup!

Stand up and be counted!

Last week we asked if you vary your fasting methods to fit around your life.

The result show just how flexible intermittent fasting can be, with around half of you sticking to your preferred method (which obviously fits around your life well enough on its own!) and the other half of you mixing and matching or combining multiple methods on a regular basis.

A number of you also commented that you'll skip meals from time to time if you can't fast, which is one of my tips for festive fasting!

FastDay wants YOU!

As we approach our second anniversary and almost a year of being known as FastDay, we're looking to give the site a bit of a face lift, something a bit easier on your eyes than the current yellow! If you've got an opinion, now's the time to speak up in the discussion at the forum.

FastDay Friends Weekly: You can do THAT with a cauliflower?

View this email in your browser

Hey errantbehavior, how are you?

With the festive season looming ever closer I'm starting to prepare an article with tips for festive fasters. If you've fasted over the holidays before I'd love to hear what tips and tricks helped you get through them without piling on the pounds!

Corey looks like a new man since losing 35lbs with 5:2 fasting...

"I started my health journey 6 months ago. After spending most of my adult life fluctuating between overweight and obese, I decided my lifestyle needed to change. I began looking into vitamins and minerals. Along the way a good friend mentioned fasting but I originally rejected the idea as 'crazy'..."

How do the different fasting methods affect the benefits of fasting?

Investigations into how best to fast are in their infancy but there are indications that, within limits, a longer period without any calorie intake may be better than spreading your calorie allowance over the day.

What's the buzz?

By the time you finish reading, you'll be itching to buy yourself a cauliflower and try out these amazingly inventive cauliflower recipes – especially when you see how low calorie they are!

Leek and Crunchy Carrot Gratin

265 calories per serving

A yummy leek based vegetarian main dish, or a good accompaniment to sausages (baked in the oven at the same time). With the vegetables, milk, cheese, breadcrumbs and nuts, this has a good balance of ingredients.

Last week we asked how you got on if you fasted over the festive season before.
Although 28% of you haven't had a fasting festive season yet, of those who have more than a half of you managed to maintain or even lose a little bit of weight, while a further third managed to only gain a little. Bearing in mind the average festive gain is around 6lbs I think fasters have done very well.

If you need some tips for fasting over the festive season, check out this blog post I wrote last year. I'm currently updating it to feature on FastDay and would welcome any
additional tips from (festive) seasoned fasters!

This week we're asking:
Do you vary your fasting methods?
